Why This Firm Exists
Todd created this firm as a deliberate departure from a legal model that too often values billable hours over the people behind the case. From the start, the firm has operated on a simple premise: clients are individuals with real stakes, not file numbers or time entries.
Before launching the firm, Todd saw firsthand how easily legal representation could become transactional, with clients reduced to line items on a billing report rather than treated as people navigating serious and often stressful problems. That approach never sat right with him. In his view, effective representation requires personal involvement, empathy, respect for the client, and a clear understanding of what the client is trying to achieve.
With that perspective, Todd built a practice centered on clarity, accountability, and purpose. Clients are heard. Advice is direct and candid, even if it's not what the client hopes to hear. Success is measured by outcomes that serve the client's goals, not by prolonged disputes or unnecessary expense. Every matter begins by defining what success looks like and developing a strategy to reach it.
That philosophy has shaped Brand Law from day one and continues to guide how every matter is handled. It is the standard Todd is committed to maintaining throughout his practice.
What We Do
Brand Law focuses exclusively on construction and real estate matters throughout Chicago and the surrounding counties. Whether you're a contractor chasing payment, a homeowner dealing with defective work, a developer navigating a title issue, or a property owner caught in a boundary dispute, this is the work we do every day.
Our practice covers the full lifecycle of construction and real estate legal needs, from drafting contracts before ground breaks to resolving disputes after the dust settles. We also provide general business counsel to contractors, developers, and small businesses who need an attorney that understands their industry.

Every case starts with listening. Before diving into legal strategy, we want to understand the full picture: what happened, what you've already tried, what outcome actually matters to you, and what constraints you're working with. A lawsuit that drags on for two years might technically be a "win" on paper, but if it bleeds your business dry or burns a relationship you needed to preserve, it's not much of a victory.
We work backward from your real goals, not the legal goals we assume you should have. Sometimes that means aggressive litigation. Sometimes it means a firmly worded letter that ends things before they escalate. Sometimes it means telling you that the fight isn't worth it, even if you're in the right. We'd rather lose a fee than watch a client spend money on a battle that won't serve them.
Throughout the process, you'll know where things stand. We don't disappear for weeks and resurface with a bill. We don't sugarcoat bad developments or oversell good ones. If something changes, whether it's a new risk, a settlement opportunity, or a shift in the other side's position, you'll hear about it promptly and plainly. You're the one making decisions about your case; our job is to make sure you have what you need to make them well.
